Let’s answer your QUESTIONS
Movement is Medicine
This is why we provide treatment for the whole family from children to grandparents, sports people, expectant mothers, office workers, and everyone inbetween.
What can I expect on my first visit?
All our osteopaths are fully qualified having studied for a minimum of 4 years and are registered with the General Osteopathic Council.
On your first visit your osteopath will take a detailed case history. This includes discussing the issue you’ve come in with, as well as your wider medical background. Some questions may not seem directly related at first, but they help ensure we understand the full picture and make sure that treatment is safe and appropriate for you.
We’ll then carry out and examination including both active and passive assessments to see how your body is moving. This may be followed by specific tests — such as orthopaedic or neurological assessments — to help us form a working diagnosis based on our findings. We’ll always try to explain our findings clearly so you understand what’s going on and why.
Treatment usually involves a combination of hands-on techniques such as massage, stretching, joint mobilisation or manipulation, along with advice and exercises to continue at home to support your recov
Where can I park?
There is free on street parking in front of the clinic and also on the surrounding roads.
Is Osteopathy safe?
Yes, Osteopathy is a safe and effective form of treatment when performed by a qualified professional. All our osteopaths are qualified and trained to provide the highest level of care.
How much does it cost?
New patient assessment and treatment (45minutes): £80
Follow up appointments (30minutes): £60
We would hate for cost to be a barrier to treatment. So if you are in pain and needing treatment but financial restraints are stopping you from seeking help from us please get in contact and we can have a discussion.
Will it hurt?
Treatment is usually very comfortable. Osteopaths use gentle techniques in general which can be modified easily to manage any discomfort.
What should I wear for treatment?
Wear clothes you feel comfortable and can move easily in. You may be asked to remove some items of clothing so we can see and treat certain areas more effectively. However, we treat some patients fully clothed, your comfort is out priority.
Do I need a GP referral?
No you do not need a referral from your GP. Anyone can book directly with us without a referral.
How many treatments will I need?
Your osteopath will discuss this with you during your first appointment. All cases are different and recovery time is dependant on various factors. But generally most conditions need 4-6 treatments over a period of several weeks.
What is the difference between osteopathy, physiotherapy and chiropractic?
Osteopaths share a lot of similarities with other manual therapists such as physiotherapists and chiropractors. All treat patients with predominantly musculoskeletal problems such as back, neck and joint and muscle pain.
The way osteopaths approach your complaint may differ. Osteopaths take your body into consideration as a whole, because we believe that no part of the body works in isolation and therefore different muscles, joints and organs will have an impact on one another.
This means osteopaths try to get to the root of the problem you are experiencing (which may be in a different area to where you feel the symptoms) and don’t just treat symptoms. This in conjunction with taking into consideration your general health and well-being makes osteopathy at its core a holistic therapy.
